1983, the
Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners
established a non-profit corporation known
as the
Westmoreland County Industrial Development
Corporation (WCIDC) to promote economic
development in the county.
Formed in 2000, the
Economic Growth Connection works in
cooperation with governmental agencies,
chambers of commerce and financial
institutions to support emerging and
expanding companies in Westmoreland County. |

The Saint
Vincent College
Small
Business Development Center was established
in 1984. The mission of the SBDC is to provide
professional business development services to
start-up and existing businesses in Westmoreland
and Fayette Counties.
The mission of the
Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board
is to lead workforce development activities in
the area’s communities in order to help
individuals attain the skills necessary for
viable employment and to help employers become
competitive in the global economy. The WIB also
works to affect changes in government
regulations to allow federal funding to be
channeled to the areas of greatest need.

Latrobe
Chamber of Commerce serves the Latrobe area,
which consists of Unity and Derry Townships, the
City of Latrobe, and the Boroughs of Derry,
Youngstown, and New Alexandria.

Laurel Highlands Chamber of Commerce,
advances the commercial, industrial, civic and
general interests of the communities in the
Greater Mount Pleasant Area, including but not
limited to: Mount Pleasant Township, East
Huntington Township, Donegal and Cook Township.

Ligonier
Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary
association of concerned business and
professional people and other community-spirited
citizens, pooling their resources, their
manpower, and their collective wisdom for the
benefit of the entire Ligonier Valley.

Norwin
Chamber of Commerce serves the Irwin, North
Huntingdon, and North Irwin areas.

Strongland
Chamber of Commerce Formed in 1985,
Strongland brought together four smaller
chambers, extending the membership over a
combined 17 communities in Armstrong and
Westmoreland counties.

Mercy Jeannette
Hospital is part of the Pittsburgh Mercy
Health System. The Pittsburgh Mercy Health
System, a member of Catholic Health East and
sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, is an
extension of the Catholic health care ministry
to all people in the tri-state region.

Westmoreland Regional Hospital is a 402-bed,
acute care facility serving the residents of
Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and
surrounding areas. They also provide

Westmoreland
County is as rich in civic organizations as it
is in natural resources. The spirits of
volunteerism and community run strong throughout

United Way
of Westmoreland County works to improve
people’s lives by mobilizing the caring power of
our communities. The United Way of Westmoreland
County works to provide a safe, healthy and
caring community where people have the
opportunity to help themselves and others.

The mission
of the
YWCA of Westmoreland County is to empower
women and girls and to eliminate racism. The
YWCA Literacy Program Center runs a tremendously
successful literacy program and yearly literacy
booksale.

“To put
Christian principles into practice through
programs that build healthy spirit, mind and
body for all” is the mission statement of the
Greensburg YMCA. The Greensburg YMCA offers
a number of self-defense, yoga, and martial arts
programs.

Westmoreland Fayette Council provides

the Boy Scouts of America. Here you will find

provided to benefit the youth of the
Westmoreland and Fayette counties of Western

Big Brothers and
Big Sisters of the Laurel Region was formed
in 1976 to serve all of Westmoreland County and
to help children reach their fullest potential
through mentoring relationships

The
Special Olympics-Lions Club International
Opening Eyes Program is an ambitious
three-year initiative funded by Lions Club
International Foundation (LCIF). Special
Olympics is an international program of
year-round athletic competition for children and
adults with mental retardation, and LCIF has
been at the forefront of protecting sight and
preventing blindness worldwide for over three
decades.

Transportation
Westmoreland
County has a number of resources for public
transportation, starting with the
Westmoreland County Transit Authority, which
provides a variety of transportation modes,
including fixed route bus service, a
complementary paratransit program for the
handicapped, and Medical Assistance
Transportation to medical facilities for people
with a valid Welfare Medical Card. Commuter bus
services to Pittsburgh are among the WCTA’s most
popular runs.
Air travel is provided out of
Arnold
Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, PA. In
1998, a $5.3 million dollar project doubled the
terminal's size to 50,000 square feet. The
project modernized the commercial ticketing,
baggage, and passenger handling facilities and
can now handle 200,000 passengers annually. Free
parking is still available in the 300 vehicle
lot with another 400 spaces planned for future
expansion.

Serving the
southwestern most points of Westmoreland County,
including Monessen and Washington Township, the
Mid Mon Valley
Transit Authority provides service almost
anywhere in the Mon Valley, with direct service
to Pittsburgh.

services have their pickup and drop off location
at the Westmoreland County Transit Center on
Bell Way in Greensburg. Call 800-231-2222 for
