Bed & Breakfast of Greensburg
Old World elegance, imaginative style,
and state of the art technology all blend
seamlessly
to provide this distinctive bed & breakfast
experience.
A quiet street in the
heart of Greensburg sets the scene for one of
the most distinctive bed & breakfast experiences
in Westmoreland County. Located on the quiet,
almost hidden, Alwine Avenue, a block east of
the YMCA, the Bed & Breakfast of Greensburg is
easy to spot. The large Victorian style
residence needs no signs, as its old world
architecture sets it apart from the neighboring
homes. The porch and front entrance seem
inviting gateways, a place where a weary
traveler might stop for a cup of tea. Indeed, an
authentic English Tea is one of this Bed &
Breakfast’s cherished traditions, complete with
cucumber or salmon sandwiches, clotted cream,
and English scones.
For the traveler, or the local resident looking
for a unique weekend getaway, the Bed &
Breakfast of Greensburg offers four distinctive
bedrooms, each adorned in its own elegant style.
There is the Victorian Room with its queen-sized
canopy bed and luxurious lace. The Safari room
boasts a king-sized claw-foot poster bed,
replete with mosquito netting, not to mention
the room’s safari masks and giraffe-print framed
mirror. The Tropical room features custom-made
window shades, valances, and a bedspread, all
reflecting a tropical theme. In the Celestial
Room, a starry motif brings a charming, dreamy
quality to life. All rooms have cable TV,
computer hookups, luxury linens, and private
baths. Some of the rooms include luxurious
Jacuzzi tubs, a favorite of guests.
Guests of the Bed & Breakfast of Greensburg
always feel welcome, with refreshments
appealingly presented and made available in the
Gallery Room. (Among the paintings in this room
is an original Thomas Kinkade, “A Holiday
Gathering.”) Those lucky enough to arrive to the
smell of home-baked cookies will feel especially
pampered.
Of course, the heart and soul of a bed &
breakfast is its owner. At the Bed & Breakfast
of Greensburg, Kathy Libertini fits the role
nicely. She is both welcoming and resourceful.
It is not enough for her to provide a relaxing
and splendid place to stay. The Bed & Breakfast
of Greensburg prides itself on arranging special
packages according to guests’ interests. There
are packages for Golf, Bicycling, Skiing,
Historical Sites, Unique Shopping, and Live
Concerts & Plays (the famous Palace Theater is
only blocks away), not to mention rides on the
scenic Westmoreland Railroad. A massage
therapist can be scheduled, and other special
arrangements often include birthday cakes or
flowers for an anniversary.
Having graduated from the University of
Pittsburgh with a degree in child development,
and being an energetic entrepreneur, Kathy is
also the owner of the Tiny Town Child Care
center in Fort Allen. In fact, Tiny Town is her
first love. This certified preschool facility
has been a part of the community for over 15
years. Kathy is also a lecturer at workshops &
conferences on childcare, and her travels in
this regard have taken her all over the United
States, as well as to Europe and China. Perhaps
this extensive experience and work with children
has contributed to her charm and the clever
insights she has into providing the best for her
Bed & Breakfast clientele.
The Bed & Breakfast of Greensburg has welcomed
guests from as far away as California, with many
visitors coming in from Ohio and the Washington
D.C. area. Since the tragedies of September
11th, local traffic has increased, as many
Westmoreland residents find that staying local
and exploring the charms of the Laurel Highlands
can provide a tremendous vacation.
In addition to its themed bedrooms and Victorian
elegance, the Bed & Breakfast of Greensburg
offers a startlingly state-of-the-art meeting
facility. The Greensburg Room comes complete
with video conferencing, multi-media facilities,
including theatre surround sound, a large screen
TV, computer hookups, DVD, VCR, and Power-Point
projection capability.
Kathy is thankful for the help of her daughters
in all endeavors. Kathy’s daughter Celeste helps
her maintain the Greensburg Bed & Breakfast at
its best. Her daughter Lindsay Stevens is
instrumental in keeping the Tiny Town Child Care
Center an invaluable community resource.
This summer, take a turn down quiet Alwine
Avenue in Greensburg, and see what this
wonderful Bed & Breakfast, located in the heart
of Westmoreland County, has to offer.
