Miss Martha’s Tea Room & Gifts
From High Tea to exquisite homemade lunches,
Miss Martha’s Tea Room & Gifts is a Westmoreland
County jewel not to be missed.
From the moment you enter
Miss Martha’s Tea Room & Gifts, you realize that
this charming shop is a place you will return to
again and again. There is a wall length mural of
a Victorian garden, a stunning staircase of Old
World elegance (perfect for group pictures), and
an array of enchanting gifts and collectibles.
Located in Scottdale, PA, Miss Martha’s Tea Room
& Gifts presents exactly the kind of break from
the ordinary sought by so many women today.
At the heart of the shop is a cozy dining area
replete with a baby grand piano, pieces of
salvaged Victorian architecture and other
classic and antique accoutrements. Lunch, which
begins at 10:00 am and is served until 3:00 pm,
is an attraction in itself. Miss Charmaine’s
Crab Bisque has been compared to the best of the
New England coast, and everything from the
Quiche of the Day to vegetable wraps prepared
with grilled red pepper and onion is made from
scratch, using the finest ingredients. Sir
David’s Cucumber Tea Sandwiches, crafted from
thinly sliced cucumber, cream cheese, butter,
and six herbs, are a favorite, and when the menu
says “homemade pie,” it is a guarantee of
handmade, oven-fresh excellence.
The fun really begins for those who make
reservations for one of Miss Martha’s
spectacular teas. “Afternoon Tea” and “Evening
Tea” are available for groups of 8 to 45, with
Miss Martha’s antique tables beautifully set
with china and stemware. The best teas and
coffee are served, and, to make the event
special, fancy hats and tea gloves are made
available to wear. The menu includes scones, tea
breads, Devonshire cream, and raspberry
preserves. Options of assorted deserts are
served on three tiered servers to help customize
your teatime to the tastes of your group.
Women’s organizations such as the Red Hat
Society and area Bridge clubs have found Miss
Martha’s Tea Room the perfect fun getaway.
By adding a selection of tea sandwiches and the
possibility of a decorated cake, “Victorian High
Tea” takes teatime to a new level, suitable for
birthdays, baby showers, retirement parties, or
just a special time together with friends. Then
there is the “Victorian Birthday Tea Party for
Girls,” a memorable event for girls ages 5 to
12, with two games and one craft activity, as
well as tables beautifully set with linens and
real china. A selection of Tea Sandwiches for
the younger set round out a menu complete with
Miss Martha’s Pink Lemonade. The decorated
teapot cakes are a wonder to behold.
For these elegant parties, groups of up to 40
can be accommodated. All teatime events include
the option of a group picture taken on the
magnificent staircase with the wall length
Victorian mural in the background.
Yet another mark of distinction for Miss
Martha’s Tea Room are the special events, held
generally once per month. In early August 2003,
an evening of operatic and musical theater
selections was presented, with ticket prices
including dessert and drinks. This will be
followed in October by Pittsburgh area
songwriter and balladeer Heather Kropf, whose
unique style is attracting growing audiences.
Throughout the year, there are always special
things happening at Miss Martha’s Tea Room &
Gifts, but please call for reservations, as
seating is limited.
Of course, reservations are never needed to stop
by and shop or browse Miss Martha’s selection of
gifts. You will find tea sets, Fenton
handcrafted American glass, Harmony Kingdom
figurines, and Root candles in a wide variety of
styles and scents, from cinnamon apple to
English lavender. And if you don’t see it here,
only half a block away is Collections by Marty,
Miss Martha’s sister store and a veritable
treasure house of collectibles ranging from
country gifts and home decorating accessories to
Vera Bradley handbags, jewelry, and everything
for bath & body. Unlike mass-market stores,
Collections by Marty takes many custom orders
for rugs, lampshades, and decorating
accessories. They are always working to add the
finest touches to your home décor. With the
nostalgic feel of an old-time general store,
Collections by Marty can make your shopping
adventure in Scottdale complete.
Miss Martha’s Tea Room & Gifts is the fulfilled
dream of owner Marty Savanick, who has always
loved antiques, collectibles, and making people
happy. Her first entrepreneurial venture came in
1989 with opening of Collections by Marty in
Scottdale. Following this success, Marty opened
a second, larger store along Route 31 in
Donegal, one well positioned to take advantage
of tourist traffic through the Laurel Highlands
and to Seven Springs. But as her businesses
grew, Marty always harbored the dream of opening
a Tea Room, at first thinking the new enterprise
could be a part of Collections by Marty. But
when the old Provident Book Store in Scottdale
became available, Marty knew the time for her
Tea Room had come at last. Today, the entire
family is involved in running Marty’s ventures,
including her husband Reuben and sons Benjamin,
Nathan, and Adam.
The future looks bright, and Marty is far from
having run out of ideas. Seven dining rooms are
being restored on the second floor, perfect for
Bridge clubs, Christmas parties, and small,
elegant get-togethers. Etiquette classes for
young girls and other informational and
entertainment events are being planned.
Miss Martha’s Tea Room & Gifts, in its
wonderful, 125 year old building, is a fun treat
that should not be missed. So stop by, or plan
to reserve your group for a special teatime
event; you will not be disappointed. Store hours
are Monday through Saturday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
and Sunday 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Lunch is served
from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm daily, except Sunday.
