Good Friday Prayer Breakfast
and Walk of the Cross
2007

Observe the Meaning of Good Friday at these Time Honored Events

Two traditional events are set to help the Norwin community observe Good Friday this year.

The first is the Good Friday Prayer Breakfast. Sponsored by the Norwin Chamber of Commerce and the Norwin Area Ministerium, the prayer breakfast takes place on April 6 at Stratigos Banquet Centre in North Huntingdon. The program runs from 7:30 am until 9:00 am, with doors opening at 6:45 am.

“The Love, the Lamb, the Cross, and the Redeemer” is the theme of this year’s gathering, where the featured speaker will be the Rev. James Leake, former pastor of the Monroeville Assembly of God.

The Rev. Leake served as pastor of the Monroeville Assembly of God for 40 years, and today, along with his wife Becky, continues to serve God through an active ministry schedule, including short term mission trips abroad to Cuba, Mexico, and India. You can learn more about the Leake’s ministry at their website: www.JamesLeake.com

Music for the Good Friday Prayer Breakfast is provided by local singers and musicians, with readings by Norwin area ministers and clergy.

Tickets are $10 each ($7 for Children under 10 years) and are available through the offices of the Norwin Chamber and at local churches. Attendees are encouraged to purchase their tickets early, as the Good Friday Prayer Breakfast has been known to sell out.

The breakfast menu includes Danish pastry, fresh fruit, eggs, pancakes & syrup, home fries, oven fresh bread, coffee, and tea.

Following the Good Friday Prayer Breakfast, the 2007 Walk of the Cross begins at 12:15 pm at the First United Church of Christ. Participants visit six churches over the course of three hours, walking from church to church. Youth representatives carry a cross, while a ten minute service is offered at each location. Enjoy traditional singing and a short message from area pastors on the theme of “The Reaction of Others to the Cross.” Each year over 150 people participate in this moving community event.

The Good Friday Breakfast began more than 20 years ago when Dr. Larry Dunster of the First Presbyterian Church in Irwin determined to do something special for the community, providing inspiration and guidance to those of all faiths. Attendees include ministers, the general public, and businessmen and their spouses. All come together to enjoy the warm companionship offered by this special morning.
