Child Care Information Services
of Westmorland County
Dedicated to helping families receive all of
the services
for which they are eligible.
Since 1989 the
Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare has
been helping families with their child care
needs through the Subsidized Child Care Program.
Today, Child Care Information Services of
Westmoreland County (CCIS) administers this
program. CCIS helps families with all their
child care needs from finding quality child care
to helping pay child care costs for those who
qualify.
Finding child care can be very confusing. CCIS’s
Parent Resource and Referral Staff can provide
free referrals to quality licensed/regulated
child care facilities that best suit your
family’s needs. After a 15 minute confidential
phone conversation with our staff, a free child
care provider search will be performed based on
the issues that are important to you and mailed
the same day with a child care checklist, and
information on other services offered in the
county. The detailed information about each
provider includes such items as: Accreditation,
Languages, Teacher Qualifications, Hours of
Operation, Special Needs Served, Rates,
Curriculum, Discounts Offered, Environment and
Transportation. After you receive the referrals,
you will be able to contact the providers who
are the best fit for your family. If you feel
you need more providers to choose from, simply
call us back for more referrals.
Stop by the office at 766 East Pittsburgh
Street, Greensburg and pay a visit to our
Parent/Provider Resource Room. There is a wealth
of information on the most current topics
regarding children, child care and other
resources important to families. Our Lending
Library is also available free of charge with
over 200 books and videos to choose from (a
complete list of titles is available on our
website!) Extended office hours make it ideal
for working parents. Office hours are Monday –
Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. and Friday 8:00
a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Because it is important for all residents to be
aware of our services, we offer an Outreach
Program. Our Resource and Referral Outreach
Specialist is available to speak to any group
regarding our services. Presentations can be
tailored to fit your schedule from 15 minutes to
an hour. Presentations have been given at
various clubs, churches, agencies, employers and
community events throughout the county. If you
are interested in having our Outreach Specialist
speak to your group, free of charge, please call
800-548-2741 ext. 119.
CCIS also administers Pennsylvania’s subsidized
child care program that assists families who
qualify in paying for child care. Parents must
be working at least 25 hours per week, meet all
eligibility requirements and fall within the
prescribed income guidelines. CCIS is a parent
choice program, which means you can choose who
cares for your child whether it be a
licensed/registered child care provider, a
friend or family member.
If you are interested in becoming a
licensed/registered child care provider, you can
contact the Pennsylvania Department of Public
Welfare’s Day Care Licensing Office at
800-222-2149.
