Contours Express is Shaping the Women of
Westmoreland County
by

Motivation is the key
word when it comes to exercising. And sometimes
working out in front of your television or in
your spare bedroom just doesn’t give you the
drive needed to exercise on a regular basis.
What is the solution to this dilemma? The answer
is simple…join Contours Express Ladies Fitness
and Weight Loss Studio. The program is only 29
minutes and you will see results by going three
times a week. Manager Beth Smith-Lynch believes
in the program.
“Our slogan is ‘Real weights. Real Results.’ I
know this program works and I see it happen with
our members,” said Beth.
The routine is circuit weight training where you
alternate between stacked weight and aerobics. As
you strengthen your muscles you change your
stacked weights to continue challenging your
muscles.
“We help our customers get started by performing
a Fitness Analysis and Trial Circuit. We record
personal information and background, explain
every piece of equipment, and discuss the
program. We work with our members as much as
needed,” said Beth.
The recommended schedule to promote weight loss
is three times a week. Beth said customers will
see the difference with how they feel, how their
clothes fit, and their energy level. They also
have a meal plan that goes with the workout,
emphasizing portion control. Beth said that it
takes everyday foods that everyone eats and
determines the correct portion and size.
What is different about the Contours program
from other gyms is that they offer stacked
weights. Following the alternating routine of
weight lifting and aerobics helps women battle
both heart disease and osteoporosis. Heart
disease is the number one disease in women and
statistics have found that one in five women
have some form of the disease.
“We are the only ladies fitness and weight loss
center that is supported by the American Heart
Association,” said Beth. “The first week in
February we are sponsoring “Go Red for Women.”
We will be wearing red and our customers can
purchase Heart Association pins.”
Contours Express participates in other
promotions as well. For instance, over 60
members attended Pennsylvania’s Breast Cancer
Coalition, making them the largest group to
participate. They also send Girl Scout cookies
to men and women serving in the military as part
of the Gifts of Caring program. Members receive
perks too. The studio provides a pampering
program where once a month a special service is
provided to all members free of charge.
Another bonus of the center is that women can go
through the program as many times as they feel
like it. Other women who are here encourage each
other. Many members become friends and have the
motivation from each other that is hard to get
when you work out alone at home according to
Beth.
“So many people tell me how they have all these
great machines in their home, but they never use
them. It’s better to come to one place that has
everything you need and you can schedule that
time into your day. It’s an outside commitment
that helps makes exercising a life change,” said
Beth. “Women have trouble taking time for
themselves. This program gets them out and
exercising. And unlike co-ed gyms, it
gives women the kind of atmosphere that they
need to ease into a program. There is no waiting
to use a machine or embarrassment of how much
weight you are using.”
The setup of the program revolves around 8
machines and 8 cardio components. Each person
works out for 45 seconds on each section and
then moves onto the next section. And there are
no specific time schedules you have to follow.
Generally most women warm up on an exercise
bike, and then jump into a routine at any time
on any machine or section. All the major muscle
groups are worked and stretched while the cardio
portion helps to burn calories.
Any member who is unsure of their progress or
has any questions can get the assistance of a
personal trainer at all times for no extra
charge. “We are there for encouragement and
support, but also to guide them in the right
direction. We can tell what they are doing right
and wrong,” said Beth.
The studio is located on Frye Farm Road in
Greensburg, PA. Hours of operation are Monday
through Thursday 7:30 a.m. through 7:00 p.m.;
Friday 7:30 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. and Saturday
7:30 a.m. to noon.
Changing your life can start with a new
routine.
Contours Express, the better idea in women's
gyms offers
that new routine, and it's right here in
