Give Daffodils. Give Hope.

Sister Bea Abril, SC, has been appointed chairperson of the 33rd annual American Cancer Society Daffodil Days in Westmoreland County.

The fundraiser, which is coming this spring, is expected to raise $79,000 locally and $4 million in the state of Pennsylvania. This is the third year that Sister Bea is coordinating activities for the sale of daffodils in Westmoreland County. “Once again, I’m honored to be the chair of the Daffodil Days campaign for the Westmoreland Unit. Our goal of raising $79,000 this year will help bring us closer to the American Cancer Society’s mission of eliminating cancer as a major health problem,” she says.

Joining Sister Bea on the committee organizing this event are Judy Palicka, of Darragh; Becky Bortz, Cheryl Flock, Shelley Polechko, Ginny Weinberg and Susan Zellner, of Greensburg; Barb Bierbower and Gerry Pricer, of Latrobe; Rose Overly, Dawn Ritter and Kim Wasil, of Mount Pleasant; and Susan Brooks and Brenda Johnson, of Scottdale.

The daffodil is the first flower of spring, and is the perennial American Cancer Society symbol of hope for cancer patients throughout the community. Receive a bunch of 10 flowers for a donation of $7, box of 500 for $350, half box of 250 for $175, or quarter box of 130 for $90. This year also marks the addition of Flowers R. Hope, the second in a special Boyds™ Bear collection designed exclusively for the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days Bear and a Bunch™ that can be ordered for a donation of $25. A special edition Daffodil Days vase with 10 flowers is also available for a donation of $15. To place an order, call the American Cancer Society office at 724-834-9081.
