Inspiring Times
InWestmoreland
Writing Contest
2004
Inspiring Times
InWestmoreland
is pleased to
present Ms.
Carol Jeanne
Kennedy of
Scottdale, PA as
the winner of
our writing
contest: Why
Westmoreland?
Carol receives
the $100 prize,
a certificate of
accomplishment,
and publication
in both
Inspiring Times
InWestmoreland
and online at
www.InWestmoreland.com.
The goal was to
convince a
recent graduate
to stay in
Westmoreland
County rather
than take a job
in Hawaii. Ms.
Kennedy managed
to do so in a
fun and engaging
style while
touching on
topics from
education to
inspiration.
Contest entries
came from North
Huntingdon,
Irwin, Latrobe,
Youngwood,
Greensburg,
Norvelt, and
Scottdale.
Picking a winner
was more
difficult than
we imagined, and
we learned a
great deal from
our many
contestants, who
worked hard to
show off their
best writing and
their love of
Westmoreland
County.
Did you know
that
Westmoreland
County has a
lower crime rate
than Hawaii? Our
cost of living
is significantly
lower, we’re
home to
heritages
ranging from
English and
German to
Scots-Irish, and
it’s a lot
easier to go on
vacation when
you’re not stuck
on an island!
Almost everyone
mentioned
family, faith,
and friends as
great reasons to
stay and make
Westmoreland
County strong.
Honorable
mentions go to
Barb Balega,
Sharon Bone,
Marge Burke,
Jerri Jacobs,
Debbie Kuhn,
Susan Margey,
Lisa Miller,
Jennifer
Smallwood, April
St. John, Jim
Vikartosky, and
Michele Watkoski.
