From
United States Congressman
Tim Murphy’s newsletter,
we learned of the following
Federal funds slated for
improvements in Westmoreland
County.
-
Arnold Palmer Regional
Airport received $1
million in the fiscal
2005 budget to extend
its runway. The
improvement will help to
reduce noise when planes
are taking off and
landing. With the recent
return of commercial
passenger flights to the
airport, the runway
extension also will
enhance safety.
-
$500,000 was also
included for
improvements at the
Routes 30 and 981
Interchange, near the
airport. The
construction will help
ease traffic congestion,
make the airport
entrance more accessible
and, as a result, make
the area more attractive
to businesses and
commuters.
-
The Westmoreland
Regional Hospital
obtained $200,000 to
expand and modernize its
emergency room.
With the improvements,
the hospital will have
additional space and
treatment rooms to meet
the growing needs of the
local communities.
-
Also included in the
budget was $100,000 to
develop 113 acres into a
business park for
high-tech companies and
the Office of Economic
Development. The
business park will help
create new technology
jobs in the region.
