2005 are full of fairs,
festivals, outdoor concerts,
and historical events in our
area.
2005 marks the sixth season
of the Concerts in the
Park Series, presented
by the city of Greensburg.
The concerts are free of
charge, and they take place
on every Friday evening from
7:00 930 during June, July,
and August at St. Clair Park
in downtown Greensburg.
Sonic highlights include the
swing band "Dr. Zoot" (July
8), the Folk rock Australian
group 'Fruit' (July 22), and
to finish off the season, an
Italian world music group, "Fiamma

The 18th Annual Derry
Township Agricultural Fair
will take place at the
fairgrounds one mile outside
of the town of New Derry
starting on Sunday, July 10
and running through
Saturday, July 16 Activities
include animal shows, music,
carnival rides, games, and
fireworks. Baked goods and
fresh fruits and vegetables
will be for sale. For a

The Westmoreland Rib,
Wing, and Fun Fest at
the Westmoreland County Fair
Grounds on Mt. Pleasant Road
in Greensburg will take
place on Friday, July 15 (4
p.m. 11 p.m.), Saturday,
July 16 (11 a.m. 11p.m.),
and Sunday, July 17 (11 a.m.
8 p.m.). Ribs, wings, and
various foods and beverages
will be available, as well
as games and activities.
Several country and rack
bands are scheduled to
perform, including two
performances by the 'Povertyneck
Hillbillies.
The Greensburg Film
Series 2005, presented
by The Greensburg Business
Association, Seton Hill
University, and The City of
Greensburg will present
Willie Wonka and the
Chocolate Factory (1971) on
Saturday, July 23 and Jaws
(1975) and Psycho (1960) on
Saturday, August 27. The
films will be shown at St.
Clair Park in Greensburg and
will begin at dusk.
The 242nd Anniversary
Reenactment of the Battle of
Bushy Run will occur on
Saturday, August 6 and
Sunday, August 7 from 10
a.m. 4 p.m. at Bushy Run
Battle field on Route 993 in
Jeannette. The historic
ambush of Colonel Henry
Bouquet by a band of Native
Americans in 1763 and
Bouquet's subsequent victory
will be reenacted in two
different battle scenes, one
in the morning and one in
the afternoon. There will
also be an 18th century
military camp to explore.

The Westmoreland County
Fair will be held at the
Westmoreland County
Fairgrounds on Mt. Pleasant
Road in Greensburg Friday,
August 19 Saturday August
27. Highlights include
animal shows and contests
presented by the 4 H Club, a
demolition derby, various
concerts, and motocross
racing. Admission is $7.00.
Tuesday, August 23 is Family
Day, and the admission price

The Franklin Area Soccer
Boosters Club will host the
Beat the Heat Annual 5K
Run/Walk on Saturday,
August 20 at Sloan
Elementary School on Sardis
Road in Murrysville.
Registration begins at 7:00
a.m. and the race begins at
8:00 a.m. Trophies and
awards will be given to the
top three finishers in each

Living History Weekend at
The Compass Inn in
Laughlintown, just east of
Ligonier on Route 30 will be
Saturday, August 20 Sunday,
August 21. The Compass Inn
is a restored 19th century
stagecoach stop, and tours
by costumed guides are
available on a walk in basis
any day from May through
October, The Living History
Weekend includes artisans
performing various 18th and
19th century crafts such as
blacksmithing, candle
making, weaving, and
