Excela Health has been recognized as one of the nation’s top providers of cardiovascular care by Evanston, Ill.-based Solucient. The Top 100 honor was bestowed in November on Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, where all invasive cardiology and cardiac surgery services for the health system are concentrated.
The annual Solucient award for cardiovascular services objectively measures performance on key criteria at the nation’s top performing acute-care hospitals. This is the seventh time an Excela Health hospital has been recognized with a Top 100 distinction in one or more categories.
“The ‘Top 100’ ranking of Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital verifies that we have demonstrated superior performance even in the face of the many challenges facing the nation’s hospitals,” said chief executive officer David S. Gallatin. “It identifies our health care organization as a national model for quality care delivery and a benchmark for success to others. Significant achievements like these can only be realized through the pursuit of excellence.
This national honor is another indication that our efforts have been successful even when measured against many other hospitals. Douglas A. Clark, president of Excela Health, noted that this honor also demonstrates the capacity of a community hospital to provide care that rivals urban and university hospitals. Excela Health continues to exceed the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association standards in both interventional cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery – performing nearly 500 open heart surgeries and 2,500 cardiac catheterization procedures per year.
