Over the Tavern - This event will run from June 30th through July 12th.  The showings will be Tuesday - Saturday 8:00p.m., Wednesday and Friday 2:00p.m., and Sunday at 3:00p.m., at The Mountain Playhouse 7690 Somerset Pike, Boswell PA. The Mountain Playhouse is very pleased to announce the upcoming production of Over the Tavern, a wonderfully human comedy about a family growing up over a tavern in 1959 working class America. Centered around 12-year-old Rudy Paziniski, a smart, wise-cracking kid who is beginning to question the Roman Catholic values he's being taught at his confirmation class ("I read there are over 1,300 religions in the world. I'd like to shop around"), Rudy sets out to discover that if God put people on the earth to have fun - as he believes - why is it that his family isn't having any? A sure winner for anyone who grew up in the idealized years of Eisenhower's America - or whose parents did - this touchingly human comedy will keep you laughing right along with Rudy as he struggles to find the answers to life.

When complaint committee head Catherine "Babe" Williams and new factory superintendent Sid Sorokin come face to face in the midst of the dispute, love blossoms. The plot unfolds with an array of twists and turns - at one point factory workers meet to discuss further tactics, such as miss matching sizes of pajamas and sewing the flybuttons onto pajama bottoms so the pants are likely to fall off - as Babe and Sid confront their love for one another. Don't miss this romantic, dance-filled, comical musical.

But that's exactly what happens in the Tony Award winning Lend Me a Tenor written by Mountain Playhouse favorite Ken Ludwig. This lively farce revolves around famed opera singer Tito Merelli, whose wife mistakes a hidden autograph seeker for a secret lover just moments before Merelli is to take the stage at a gala event. Premiering in Chicago in 1944 - Williams' first success and best known play - The Glass Menagerie tells the story of Tom Wingfield, his mother Amanda and his sister Laura, who as a shy young woman attracts few suitors, to the chagrin of her mother Amanda. When Tom relents to his mother's requests and brings home Jim, a potential suitor from his job at a local warehouse, Laura learns that he is actually a man she once had a deep affection for as a schoolgirl. The evening involves a furtive kiss, a slow dance, and a broken glass unicorn that comes to symbolize the loss that underscores this aching and haunting classic.
