Imagine you are the proud
author of a new book; would you modestly store
your work in a desk drawer? It needs to be sold,
promoted, and distributed until the whole world
is aware of it. No matter who designed it, or
who hosts it, your website is that book!
Websites hold information about your products
and services, hours of operation, location,
company mission, and more.
Many ways of promoting your
website are commonsense and require no more
advertising budget than funds you routinely
expend already. It is wise to place your web
address on every (and we mean every) printed
piece your company produces, from brochures and
flyers, to letterhead, invoices, purchase
orders, faxes, and more.
Your website also needs to be
registered with the Search Engines people use to
look for things on the Internet. InWestmoreland
always registers the websites and web pages we
produce with the five main search engines
accepting free submissions, including the world
leader Google. Many other search engines require
registration fees and, depending on your
individual needs, these too may prove
worthwhile.
Many search engines accept
sponsored advertising as part of their search
results. Google’s AdWords program is a great
example. These are the colored boxes that appear
on the right of the screen in any series of
Google search results.
The structure and design of
your website also determines how well it works
in Internet searches. You will often hear this
referred to as website optimization. Did you
know that search engine robots visit your
website regularly to read its contents, visit
your pages, and determine how worthwhile your
site is to people looking for information?
Should you be interested in
effectively promoting your website, or
optimizing your website for better Internet
searches, a short consultation with
