The Mission of the Citizens Advisory Board
(CAB)
The
Westmoreland Parks and Recreation Citizens
Advisory Board was created in June of 2000.
It has now grown to a group of 15 volunteers
appointed by the Board of County
Commissioners to advise the growth and
development of our County Parks and
Recreation facilities and programs.
The vision of the Citizens Advisory Board
(CAB) is to engender the widespread
appreciation and enjoyment of Westmoreland
County's natural resources through its
recreational facilities and programs.
The mission of the CAB is to facilitate the
implementation of Westmoreland County's
Parks Horizons: A Comprehensive Park,
Recreation and Open Space Plan, which was
adopted in June of 2000, to assure and
enhance the quality of life within the
region.

UPMC Health Plan & Kennametal
Over 475 Marchers, 43 Teams, 60 Business
Sponsors, and $52,000 raised to help “Keep
Westmoreland County Green,” which surpassed last
year's total by $15,000. There are so many
individuals, groups and businesses that came
together at Twin Lakes Park on March 29 to make the
Westmoreland Parks and Recreation Citizens Advisory
Board’s (CAB) second annual March For Parks a great
success. The March for Parks is a special event of
the Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation
Citizens Advisory Board. It is sponsored in part by
Sam's Club, UPMC Health Plan, Allegheny Power, and
Kennametal.

The March around the park began at 10:30am, and
the marchers made their way around the both the
Upper and Lower Lakes, walking anywhere from one
to five miles. After the March, the participants
gathered for lunch sponsored by our local
legislators. During lunch, the marchers were
treated to music by DJ Dave Haering. The day
concluded with the presentation of team awards
and a door prize giveaway with over 50 prizes!
Both the Citizens Advisory Board members and
parks staff are grateful for the tremendous
outpouring of support for the March from the
community. "I am ecstatic about our March For
Parks results this year. This year's event not
only exceeded any previous fund-raising records
by more than $10,000, but it set the stage for
even better results in the future," said Randy
Stas, March For Parks chairperson and CAB
member. "I got the sense at the March that a
common spirit is forming among the CAB, the
Staff, the Commissioners, the Sponsors, the
Teams, and the Community in general. And, this
will lead us on. So many people made this all
possible and I can not extend enough thanks to
express my appreciation."
