Directions
Five Star Trail
runs along the Southwestern Pennsylvania
Railroad line between Lynch Field in
Greensburg and Youngwood, PA. Points to
join the trail can be found off Route
119 South, starting in Greensburg at
Lynch Field, at Huff Avenue, at Willow
Crossing Road, at the traffic light for
Buncher Commerce Park near Youngwood,
and at Depot Street in Youngwood.
Overview
The Five Star
Trail is great for walking, hiking,
jogging, bicycling, and cross country
skiing. It is handicapped accessible.
This Rail with Trail project is named
after the five municipalities through
which the trail passes: Greensburg,
Hempfield Township, South Greensburg,
Southwest Greensburg, and Youngwood. The
Five Star Trail Chapter is associated
with the Regional Trail Corporation, a
non-profit corporation within
Westmoreland, Allegheny, and Fayette
Counties. Its mission is to promote the
conversion of railroad right-of-way into
recreational trails.
At Hillis Street in Youngwood, the trail
branches off to the east and connects
with Westmoreland County Community
College. An expansion in progress takes
the trail from the College in Youngwood
and the Youngwood Trail Station toward
Armbrust. The new section of the trail
will end just outside of Armbrust.

Youghiogheny River Trail
Directions
The Youghiogheny
River Trail can be accessed from
Cedar Creek Park in Southwestern
Westmoreland County. The trail entrance
is near Cedar Creek Gorge and Manderino
Riverfront Park, in the northern section
of the park.
Overview
A walking,
biking, equestrian, and cross
country-skiing trail, the Yoghiogheny
River Trail is part of a regional system
of trails which will eventually link
Pittsburgh to Washington D.C. The trail
is handicapped accessible. Bicycle
rentals and concessions are available at
the nearby Cedar Creek Station facility.
The trail runs from Cedar Creek north to
McKeesport in Allegheny County (21
miles) and south to Meyersdale (79
miles).
Cedar Creek Park makes an ideal access
point for the Youghiogheny River Trail,
as there is plentiful parking, a
concession and bicycle rental facility,
the nearby beauty of a lazy bend in the
Youghiogheny River, and the additional
possibility of exploring Cedar Creek
Gorge, an adjacent secluded walking
trail through a ravine cut by Cedar
Creek. Regardless of the season, the
natural scenery is quite beautiful along
the trail, gorge, and river.
