Philip J Dahar, DMD
We realize this is a new experience for you and have set aside time so
that we can give you our full attention. Your initial exam will last
about 30 minutes. We will answer any of your questions and talk with you
concerning necessary treatment. There is NO fee for this service.
Typically, a second visit is set aside for diagnostic
records, which include orthodontic X-rays and photographs of your teeth
and face, all to be used for the most precise diagnosis and individual
treatment. A treatment conference will follow. At this time, we will
explain to you your diagnosis, treatment plan and fee for services. We
have three basic payment plans available.

Orthodontic treatment is the dental specialty of preventing and
correcting irregularities of the teeth and jaws with braces.
Dental health is the most important reason to consider orthodontic
treatment. Your teeth are meant to last a lifetime, and with proper
alignment and care, they can be a source of pride and confidence through
all your years.
Teeth can be impacted (trapped in the jaw bone), rotated, crowded,
spaced, or even missing altogether. Do any of these conditions affect
your smile?
- Crooked or Crowded Teeth
- Upper Protrusion (overbite)
- Lower Protrusion (underbite)
Other common problems, which may accompany any type of
malocclusion, include:
- Open Bite (teeth do not meet when the mouth is closed
and there is a gap between the top and bottom front teeth).
- Deep Bite (too much overlap between the upper and lower front teeth).
- Cross Bite (also known as “scissor bite,” is when the upper
teeth are inside the lower teeth, in the front, in the back, or both).
Understandably, no one is thrilled by the prospect of a
treatment plan including braces; however, times have changed, and so have
braces. Especially over the last decade, braces have become smaller, more
comfortable and less noticeable than ever before. At Dahar Orthodontics, we
offer a variety of the finest teeth straightening appliances available on the
market today.
- Invisalign represents a whole new way to straighten teeth
without calling attention to them. Invisalign uses a series of nearly
undetectable aligners instead of brackets and wires. Even up close, it can
be difficult for people to tell you are wearing Invisalign, and best of all
Invisalign is comfortable and removable. It is important to note, however,
Invisalign can only be used in cases that require minimal tooth movement.
- Cosmetic brackets (clear) work with the reliability of metal
and the attractive appearance of retainers. Remarkably translucent and
impossible to discolor, clear brackets go on just as easily as ordinary metal
braces.
- Gold brackets provide the glamour of gold and the
dependability of the best orthodontic appliances. Many find these brackets are
not only better looking than silver brackets, but are equally as comfortable.
TMJ is a term used to
describe dysfunctions of the jaw muscles and joints.
Perhaps you are experiencing a slight clicking or
popping sensation when opening and closing your
mouth. TMJ can also be as serious as persistent pain
extending into the face, neck and shoulders. It can
involve ringing in the ears, frequent headaches, and
even occasional “locking” when the jaw seems to
stick open temporarily.
It is important to have TMJ Syndrome diagnosed
properly and a course of treatment specific to your
individual needs prepared. Treatment may be as
simple as a soft diet, physical therapy and or/
taking an anti-inflammatory. However, solving the
problem may be more involved and can require
anything from corrective bite splints and selective
reshaping of certain teeth, to orthodontic treatment
to correct the bite and/or possible joint surgery
(which rarely occurs). In between are a variety of
options that must take your individual circumstances
into account.
