It's a Celebration!
What do you do if you are a single parent working hard
to build your own business, and suddenly you find you
have succeeded? Gwen Loughner of Wordcrafters in
Youngwood, PA recently found herself with such a happy
problem. Her graphic design company doubled its gross
revenues in 2002, and prospects for 2003 look bright.
With April soon to mark Wordcrafters' 5th anniversary,
the time is nearing to give something back. "My clients
have been extremely loyal," Gwen explained. "Their
word-of-mouth references are a large part of the success
of the business." To celebrate, Gwen plans a donation to
the United Way, made in the name of her clients. "This
will mean so much more," said Gwen, "both to the
community and to the companies we serve." Gwen chose the
United Way because of her personal involvement and
respect she has for the organization and staff.
Wordcrafters creates a variety of advertising and
marketing pieces. Brochures, billboards, program books,
ad designs, newsletters, and newspaper layouts are just
a few. "We are very good at pinpointing the advantages
of your business and promoting those benefits with
professional, stylish design." Wordcrafters' clients
include a newspaper, professional speakers, software
trainers, Chambers of Commerce, as well as non-profit,
auto repair, industrial, printers, and accounting
clients. The list goes on.
Success was not always certain. In 1998, Gwen had her
hands full raising her daughter, Carina. She opened
Wordcrafters as a single mom after graduating with a
degree in Communications from Seton Hill College. Two
years later, Angela-Rose O'Brien, the publisher of
Inspiring Times, provided encouragement, and soon
Inspiring Times became one of Wordcrafters' major
clients.
In 2002 it was
time for Gwen to bring on her first employee, graphics
designer Jamie Horton. Jamie started as an intern with
Wordcrafters while attending Seton Hill. "Jamie has been
instrumental in easing the burden of a growing
business," Gwen explained. "But I'm still looking. Soon
there will be room for another experienced graphic
designer ."
With
Wordcrafters, Gwen has found a way to utilize her design
skills to help businesses, organizations, and
non-profits grow.
