Statler's Fun Center
Statler's Fun Center offers fun in the sun
for the entire family
by Karen Fetter
Looking for something fun to do this summer? Visit Statler's Fun
Center located at 407 Frye Farm Road in Greensburg for some outdoor
excitement. There is everything from driving ranges and mini golf to
paint ball and go-karts. It's fun for the entire family.
In 1949 Statler's Fun Center started out as a farm. Located along
the original Lincoln Highway before Route 30 was built, it proved
the perfect location for a business. The Statler's Fun Center has
always been a part of the family and the Westmoreland County
community. It began as a driving range and golf course. Then it
evolved through the years to what it is today. In 1994, Nancy and
Scott Statler took over the facility and added the go-kart track.
The arcade was added in 1996 and the miniature golf course in 2002.
Statler's Fun Center has a variety of activities that customers can
participate in. The facility offers go karts, an arcade, paint ball,
a driving range, miniature golf, and parties.
The go kart track is one of the largest tracks in the
area measuring at 1528 feet long with a double
over-and-under bridge. There are three types of karts available to
rent: a single, double, and pro. A single kart is for a person 57"
tall or at least 10 years old. A double kart is for smaller children
who can ride with an adult. Children still must be at least 36" tall
to ride in the kart. A pro kart is for a driver who wants the next
level. This kart requires a valid driver's license.
The
arcade and snack shop gets customers out of the sun and into
an air-conditioned area with snacks and drinks. There is fresh-baked
pizza, ice cream, and soda pop available when customers are ready
for a break. This is also the location where parties are held.
Standard party packages include one go-kart ride, one round of
miniature golf, a bucket of balls at the driving range, pizza, soft
drinks, and an ice cream cake. Parties can also include paint ball
or can be without the food.
Paint ball is another option that
many customers love to
experience. Paint ball can be exhilarating for first timers as well
as for the experienced. Paint ball is open to the public every
Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Other paint ball times and parties much
be reserved in advanced. Participants must be at least 10 years of
age. Packages include a gun rental, full coverage rental goggles,
CO2, 100 premium paintballs, a game referee, and field instructions.
There are also camouflage jump suit outfits available for rental. If
participants have their own supplies they can just pay the field fee
for the length of time desired. There are four different playing
fields on 12 acres of land.
The Driving Range allows golfers the chance to improve their game by
practicing into target greens and practice sand traps. There are
also natural grass areas available for swinging. Golf clubs and
balls are provided. Personal golf lessons are available Tuesdays,
Thursdays, and Saturdays by appointment only. Contact Scott Statler,
a PGA professional, to set up your appointment at 724-539-7805.
And lastly Statler's Fun Center would not be complete without the
Miniature Golf course. This elaborate course is different than any
other course in the area. The course includes a play-through cave
with waterfalls, streams, and beautiful landscaping. "We really
think the mini golf course is something special," said owner Nancy
Statler. "We played on many courses and talked to the designer of
our favorite to come up with this design. It's fun and exciting to
play."
In the Summer, Statler's Fun Center is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Monday through Friday. Saturday hours are from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
and Sunday from 12:30 to 10 p.m. In the Spring and Fall, opening
hours remain the same, but closing is at dusk. The facility closes
from November to February.
