The Coffee Bean Cafe
Coffee and a Whole Lot More
by Karen Fetter
The coffee culture is about to become even richer in Westmoreland County
thanks to entrepreneur Dale Personett, owner of the Coffee Bean Cafe. Dale
opened his second cafe in Greensburg at the beginning of February, 2008. This
new location is on Route 30 across from Westmoreland Mall and next to Office
Max. The cafe resembles the original shop he opened in 2005 in Latrobe across
from the Highway Drive-In; however, there are some added bonuses that customers
old and new will be sure to enjoy, including a drive-thru window for those who
are on the go!
We are all about relaxation. Our customers come first for the coffee, but after
they are here they can relax without any pressure to leave and they also feel a
sense of community with the workers and other customers, said Dale.
The atmosphere is one feature that encourages many customers to become regulars.
Whether you need to have a business meeting outside of the office, need to get
work done without distractions, or just want a place to meet with friends or
family to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee, the Coffee Bean Cafe is the place to
go. And they offer so much more than just coffee, including pizza, specialty
drinks, breakfast and lunch offerings, even pastries.
There is never any pressure to eat, drink, and leave. Dale says realistically
that a customer can come and buy one cup of coffee and be there for eight hours!
The atmosphere is meant for people to sit and relax and not to be in a hurry.
Another added bonus is that the entire store is WiFi compatible so people can
use their laptops and be connected to the Internet. Dale envisions the
Greensburg location as a place where people can stop by after a movie or
shopping to continue enjoying the company they are with, but without having to
drink alcohol or buy a meal.
First and foremost, what makes the Coffee Bean Cafe stand out from other
coffee shops, even nationally famous ones, is that the coffee is roasted at the
cafe. Dale has attended training to learn how to roast fresh coffee beans and he
has perfected the process. Not only does Dale roast his own beans, but he only
gets the best beans imported from all over the world. Not all coffee shops can
say that.
At the Coffee Bean Cafe, they purchase only the top 3% of coffee beans from
South America, Africa, Indonesia, and other well known providers throughout the
world. From these coffee beans Dale creates a house blend that is unique to the
Coffee Bean Cafe.
Also, each day Dale provides one original coffee so customers have the
opportunity to taste a variety. Each bean gets roasted in a different way in
order to get the maximum flavor. Some of the most popular coffees include
Jamaican Blue and Kona Fancy.
Coffee is like brewing fine beer, said Dale. Its an art form.
Another bonus few might expect from the Coffee Bean cafe will be authentic wood
fired Neapolitan pizza. Dale says that a wood fire oven has been installed that
bakes the pizza at 850 degrees in as little as 3 minutes. To reinforce only the
best quality, Dale has hired pizziola expert Michael Faircholme, who brings his
exceptional background and training in Italy to the job. Michael arrived in
early February from California for eight days to exclusively train the workers
at the cafe.
This pizza is a gourmet pizza that is meant to be healthier with less
grease, said Dale.
In addition to the coffee and gourmet pizza, the Coffee Bean Cafe will also
provide a wide array of other drinks to accommodate everyones tastes, including
hot espresso beverages, iced beverages, frozen beverages, and smoothies. The
amazing range of offerings includes breakfast paninis, deli sandwiches and
paninis, soups, potato salads, coleslaw, and pastries.
Putting together this coffee heaven has not been simple for Dale. Before opening
the Latrobe store he did over two years of research. Dale had previously had
been in the eyeglass industry and traveled extensively. Each time he traveled he
began to notice the coffee culture and the different tasting coffees available
across the country. Once he started drinking it, it was hard for him to go back
to the regular coffee he had been used to. Dale hired consultants to help him
create the look and feel of the Coffee Bean Cafe, that special welcoming
environment he wanted to portray. When it comes to decisions for this coffee
roaster, he always selects the best. That is the feeling you will get once you
enter into the cafe. Dale has been more than happy to bring the coffee culture
to western Pennsylvania.
There is nothing like the Coffee Bean Cafe around here, said Dale.
