The Crop Shop
by Karen Fetter
The
growth and popularity of scrapbooking has increased dramatically over the
years. People of all ages are taking photographs and using them to create
elaborate pages that both celebrate and preserve their family heritage. Special
moments, occasions, and events can be captured and retold through scrapbooking.
Personalized embellishments help bring precious memories to every page.

At The Crop Shop, each customer receives the kind of personalized attention
that makes their scrapbooking efforts take wing. Cindy Huffine, the new owner
of the Crop Shop, is delighted that she is able to take something she loves to
do, make it a part of her career, and bring the joy of scrapbooking to others.
Scrapbooking Store in Hempfield Plaza
The Crop Shop is located next to Sam's Club in the Hempfield Plaza. It
offers everything from paper, stickers, and books to classes and crop nights.
The store is spacious, stroller friendly, and organized by category instead of
supplies. There are scrapbooking tools available to use and dozens of
scrapbooking ideas readily available.
"I always tell people who have never done scrapbooking not to be
overwhelmed. With heart, anyone can accomplish great things," said Cindy.
"Everyone needs to preserve their memories. It's your legacy to your children
and their children."
Upon entering the store, customers find the organization of supplies is
intuitive and easy to navigate. Many other scrapbooking stores line aisle after
aisle with a confusing jumble and people do not know what to do. Cindy advises
starting with your photos before even picking out the supplies. This way your
moments are organized and you can pick and choose what you will be scrapbooking.
Scrapbooking Classes for Everyone
At
the Crop Shop, Cindy takes great care to find unique and imaginative supplies
not available in just any craft store. So if you are looking for that certain
something that even you can't put your finger on, The Crop Shop is the place to
come. They offer many personalized embellishments to fit any school, sport, or
activity, etc. Cindy can even help design an entire page if needed.
The Crop Shop also holds classes called Sketches that help with layout and
design. Cindy can give each customer a recipe of what they would need along
with sketches and drawings so they can complete the pages. Look online (www.TheCrop-shop.com)
or call (724-832-3004) to see when the next Sketches class is available!
"Everyone has different expectations that can range from simple to
elaborate. You can start with a birthday or event and work from there. There
are so many textures, layers, and dimensions that the possibilities are
endless," said Cindy.
In November, 2011, the Crop Shop will offer a Fall Fest Weekend that will
take place on the 11th through 13th. People can register at the shop for the
60-hour event of cropping. The fee includes meals for the entire weekend along
with refreshments, snacks, and prize giveaways. Customers are welcomed to use
any equipment at the shop and instructors are there to provide assistance.
Other additional events that are scheduled for the upcoming season are the
Black Friday Crop that takes place Friday, November 25 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Instead of going out shopping to all of the sale-crazed stores, people can come
into the Crop Shop and scrapbook all day.
There is also a My Husband is Hunting Crop on Sunday, November 27th from 9
a.m. to 7 p.m. If your husband will be gone all day hunting you don't have
to be alone. Instead you can join friends and continue on with your
scrapbooking.
"Scrapbooking has several layers. It allows women to shop, socialize,
organize, and preserve. It is everything all in one," said Cindy.
Word Books, Shadow Boxes, and More
Speaking of the holidays, there are so many ideas that are possible. One
popular idea is a word book, which is a scrapbook that is created by cutting out
the shape of letters in chipboard and assembling them in an elongated pattern to
create a word. Each page can then be embellished and photos added to make
it a perfect holiday gift.
Another idea is to create shadow boxes. You can add photos from a graduation
or a family gathering and add additional embellishments. You also have the
possibility to decorate photo frames or create gift boxes out of paper.
Christmas is also the perfect time to create your own Christmas cards. The Crop
Shop offers a special card making class to assist you in making creative and
keepsake cards that your family will cherish.
One of the best changes under Cindy's new ownership is an extended cropping
area. People can now rent a full or a half table. Cindy believes this allows
more space for each person and for more people to attend each event. Regular
cropping within the store is $2.00 per hour and the customer can use available
cropping equipment.
Thursday is a special cropping day where the fee for a table is only $1.00
for each of the first three hours and then it is free after that. Furthermore,
every week includes a Friday Night Crop from 6 p.m. to midnight. Seating is
limited so registration is required.
Another event that draws significant attention is the Yard Sale. This event
will take place twice a year and it allows people to rent a table to sell excess
or unwanted craft supplies. There are also various other themed events and
classes throughout each month. For a list of these events and classes visit the
website at www.thecrop-shop.com or
stop in the shop to pick up a calendar.
In addition to the numerous events and classes, The Crop Shop also offers a
preferred customer program, gift registries, private cropping parties, gift
certificates, and contests.
Store hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is closed on
Sundays and Mondays unless there is a scheduled event.
Consider stopping by the Crop Shop
for all your scrapbooking needs.
