Tips for Having your Air Conditioner Checked for Proper
Efficiency.
Check Refrigerant Level
Do this on a day when the temperature is above 78
degrees. If you check the air conditioner when the
temperature is below 70 degrees, it makes it difficult to
determine the correct refrigerant level.
DO NOT CUT Grass Clippings Directly Into Your Air
Conditioner.
This can clog your outdoor air conditioner causing it to
run hot and inefficiently. Keep shrubs a minimum of 8" away
from the air conditioner.
Turn Your Air Conditioner Up 4 to 6 Degrees.
Turn your thermostat up when away from home for more than
4 hours. This will save energy and keep the humidity levels
down in your home.
Turn All Supply Registers Off in the Basement
During the Cooling Season.
Remember cold air flows down while warm air rises. If you
have high and low return registers always hope the high and
close the lower register. This will condition the warm air
that rises in your home.
You Can Turn Your Air Conditioner Off and Open
Your Windows.
Opening your Windows on a cool summer day with low
humidity. This will not cause your air conditioner to work
harder when you turn it on again.
Check Your Filter Monthly.
Never assume your filter is clean. A dirty filter will
cause low air flow and run your air conditioner longer,
using more electricity.
