Pennsylvania Train Stations - Restored and Revitalized
DiSalvo's Station, located in Latrobe, Westmoreland
County, is among one of the sixteen railroad stations
featured in the newly released Pennsylvania Train Stations -
Restored and Revitalized. The film takes viewers on a
journey to uncover the memorials of railroading and the
people who saved them.
DiSalvo's is rich in railroading history and is a historic
landmark. The station itself is beautiful and the
restoration was very well done and the building is well
cared for. The restaurant is very unique and while it
has a European flair, the architecture still is a reminder
of the buildings railroading history, said Jeremiah Huth of
Inecom Entertainment Company.
Inecom Entertainment Company, a producer and distributor of
independent films, has partnered with Penn State Public
Broadcasting to create the film. The DVD is available
today in stores and through online retailers and rental
services such as Amazon.com.
In the early 1900s, the train system was the main form of
transportation in the United States.
Each community had a station that gave people the
opportunity to travel more quickly than before. People
could go anywhere they needed or wanted to go. The
train meant freedom. Whether it was to visit a family
member, have a vacation, say goodbye to a soldier going off
to war, or welcoming home a war hero, the train stations
served an important purpose and had a charm and beauty to
them. This film captures that charm and nostalgic
beauty of stations that were brought back to life by their
owners in exciting and unusual ways. Train Stations
were unique and will always remain so because of their
history and remarkable architecture. As you watch the
film and view a walk through the corridors, you will feel
like you stepping back in time.

According to Huth, long research was needed to find these
restored train stations in Pennsylvania. About 50
stations were identified that looked promising initially.
From this, contact was made with the owners and the list
narrowed to 30 based on the condition of the structure, its
restoration, unique features, history, and the storytelling
ability of the owners.
Each prospective location was visited and the director
talked to the people involved with these stations. The
list was narrowed to what is now featured in the DVD, said
Huth.
