Spring Bounces Me Into Happiness!
Spring has almost sprung! Although spring isn't my favorite season, it
sure is a lot better than winter! For me, spring brings warmer weather,
thoughts of Easter, and celebrations of my birthday.
As I have mentioned before, I don't like winter at all.
I would rather live somewhere where it is 90 degrees all
year round than endure one day of bitter cold and snow. I
am also prone to getting upper respiratory infections in
winter, so I become a hermit and don't go out unless it is
absolutely necessary. I don't enjoy staying in, but I know
it is what I have to do because if I get sick, it takes me a
very long time to recover. Therefore, I love the first
signs of spring and warm weather because I can start
shedding heavy clothes, find my capri pants, and come out of
hibernation! And the first day it is warm enough for me to
wear shorts is pure joy!
Of course, it wouldn't be spring without Easter! I have
some wonderful Easter memories. First of all, when I was a
little girl, my mom would make me a dress every year. It
was usually pink or purple and had a lot of frills and
lace. I would never wear a dress like that now, but I have
to admit I loved those dresses! Also, being a typical
little girl, I had to have shoes to match! My outfit wasn't
complete without pretty shoes and tights!
Another special Easter I have is of my Papa decorating a
tree in our front yard. My grandparents lived right next to
us, and Papa would come in the yard every year when I was
very little and decorate the tree for me. I can still
remember sitting in our bay window and watching him. It is
one special memory I will never forget.
Nowadays, Easter is like any other holiday. Everyone
comes for dinner and my mom cooks her usual feast. We
typically have ham, sweet potatoes, scalloped potatoes, and,
of course, lasagna! It isn't Thanksgiving, so we get red
sauce! Although I don't get an Easter basket anymore, I
still get some small gifts and candy. My favorite kind of
Easter candy is Milky Way eggs and 3 Musketeers bunnies.
Yes, I love chocolate! As for what I wear, I just find a
nice outfit in my closet. No more frilly dresses for me!
Smack dab in the middle of spring is my birthday. May
2nd will make me 29 this year, which definitely makes me
feel really old! I don't even want to think about my
birthday next year! As far as celebrating, I have always
enjoyed planning special outings with my family and
friends. On my actual birthday, I traditionally go out to
dinner with my mom and our good friend to a nice, local
restaurant that has excellent food! For the rest of the
month, I plan get-togethers with my friends. I might go to
the spa with one friend, see a movie with another, and enjoy
a show with a third. Since I feel my birthday is a time for
me to celebrate the life I almost didn't have, I try to make
the whole month of May one big party!
Spring brings me a sense of happiness. I can't wait to
see the world again after I have been like a bear that has
hibernated in a cave for the past three months. Besides my
birthday, I love spring because it means summer is just
around the corner. Very few things make me happier than the
first day of summer!
