New Program to Improve End-of-Life Care
Two trusted Pittsburgh area institutions, Redstone
Highlands and Family Hospice and Palliative Care, have come
together in an innovative collaborative program that
provides community members with another option in health
care. By providing expert hospice and palliative care
services, a new program, Eventide, will improve end-of-life
care for Redstone Highlands residents. The joint program
will be available across the continuum of care: skilled and
intermediate nursing, personal care, and independent living.
Typically, older adults in these settings have not benefited
a lot from hospice and palliative care, and when they have,
it is usually only at the very end of an illness.
Recognizing this new challenge, Redstone Highlands and
Family Hospice and Palliative Care have teamed up to provide
residents and families with the support they need during an
often difficult time.
Rafael Sciullo, the President and CEO of Family Hospice and
Palliative Care, is eager to offer hospice and palliative
care services to residents. 'Hospice and palliative care
services is about living the best quality of life possible.
We know from experience that this partnership will greatly
enhance the lives of the residents. There is a tremendous
benefit to the patient, family and the staff of both
organizations.'
For more than a quarter of a century, Redstone Highlands and
Family Hospice and Palliative Care have been concerned with
the quality of life of seniors. Comfort, dignity, and peace
of mind are fundamentals in the care provided by both
organizations. Redstone Highlands provides a complete
spectrum of care within its three campuses. Family Hospice
and Palliative Care provides hospice and palliative care
throughout western Pennsylvania.
Redstone Highlands is operated by Redstone Presbyterian
SeniorCare and is a Christian, non-profit organization open
to all faiths, that is dedicated to providing living
alternatives and high quality services that help to meet the
changing needs of the community. 'Partnering with Family
Hospice and Palliative Care positions Redstone to better
meet the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of our
residents and their families at a critical time in their
lives,' states John Dickson, President and CEO of Redstone
Presbyterian SeniorCare.
Redstone Highlands residents will have the benefit of
hospice and palliative care for as long as they need it, as
soon as they need it and in the setting of their choice. The
Eventide Program allows the residents of Redstone Highlands
to have the same options as those living elsewhere '
compassionate and caring hospice and palliative care.
