Overview
The Five Star Trail is great for walking, hiking,
jogging, bicycling, and cross country skiing. It is
handicapped accessible. This Rail with Trail project is
named after the five municipalities through which the trail
passes: Greensburg, Hempfield Township, South Greensburg,
Southwest Greensburg, and Youngwood. The Five Star Trail
Chapter is associated with the Regional Trail Corporation, a
non-profit corporation within Westmoreland, Allegheny, and
Fayette Counties. Its mission is to promote the conversion
of railroad right-of-way into recreational trails.
At Hillis Street in Youngwood, the trail branches off to the
east and connects with Westmoreland County Community
College. An expansion in progress takes the trail from the
College in Youngwood and the Youngwood Trail Station toward
Armbrust. The new section of the trail will end just outside
of Armbrust.
