Cedar Creek Park in
Southwestern Westmoreland County. The trail entrance is near
Cedar Creek Gorge and Manderino Riverfront Park, in the
northern section of the park.
Overview
A walking, biking, equestrian, and cross country-skiing
trail, the Yoghiogheny River Trail is part of a regional
system of trails which will eventually link Pittsburgh to
Washington D.C. The trail is handicapped accessible. Bicycle
rentals and concessions are available at the nearby Cedar
Creek Station facility. The trail runs from Cedar Creek
north to McKeesport in Allegheny County (21 miles) and south
to Meyersdale (79 miles).
Cedar Creek Park makes an ideal access point for the
Youghiogheny River Trail, as there is plentiful parking, a
concession and bicycle rental facility, the nearby beauty of
a lazy bend in the Youghiogheny River, and the additional
possibility of exploring Cedar Creek Gorge, an adjacent
secluded walking trail through a ravine cut by Cedar Creek.
Regardless of the season, the natural scenery is quite
beautiful along the trail, gorge, and river.
