Once again we are asking you to bring personal care items to the meeting in support of our signature project the Welcome Home Shelter. Perhaps this time we could include some hair ornaments for little girls...pretty barrettes...sweet smelling hand lotions for moms.
The National Children's Study will examine the effects of the environment, as broadly defined to include factors such as air, water, diet, sound, family dynamics, community and cultural influences, and genetics on the growth, development, and health of children across the United States. The Study will follow them from before birth until age 21 years. The goal of the Study is to improve the health and well-being of children.
Westmoreland County is one of 105 counties in the United States taking part in the National Children's Study. Women who are pregnant, or hope to become pregnant, and are interested in learning more about the benefits of participating in the NCS in Westmoreland should call 866-315-7125 to determine their eligibility. Compensation for eligible women is offered. Visit www.ncsinwestmoreland.org or ‘LIKE’ the National Children’s Study on Facebook for additional information.
Hello Friends,
I love October! Apples, pumpkins, mums, gourds, football, sweaters, colored leaves and most of all Halloween Candy!
I hope you will join us at the October 21 meeting at Lakeview. Bonnie Lewis from the YWCA will be our speaker. She will tell us all about the YWCA's initiatives to address gender and racial equality as well as her work as chair of the Women's Leadership Committee and the Unity Rally.
Please make sure you are registered to vote in the November elections and I encourage you to become educated on the candidates by attending debates (the NAACP is sponsoring a debate among the candidates for County Commissioner on October 26), meeting those running for office and reading all you can. Dana Brown from the PA Center for Women and Politics, our speaker in April, told us how important it is for women to be involved in the political process.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Jean FitzGibbons from Planned Parenthood, our speaker in July, reminded us about the importance of breast exams and the ability to get them at the Planned Parenthood office in Greensburg. Also don’t forget to schedule those mammograms!
Let us not forget those less fortunate than us. We are still collecting items for the Welcome Home Shelter and fellow member Lyndsay Burrick, director of the shelter, thanks us after every meeting for our donations. Also remember to participate in your company's United Way campaign. Giving just $1.00 per pay can help a lot of people in Westmoreland County. When we all give together we can make a big splash!
Enjoy October! Drink some cider...carve a pumpkin...rake the leaves...cheer your favorite team onto victory! See you all on the 21st!
